What is Soldier On Jobs?

soldier on jobs

Soldier On Jobs is an initiative led by the Soldier On organisation. Soldier On helps former Defence Force personnel find their feet in civilian life. As part of this, it runs a dedicated Soldier on Jobs program, designed to help people transfer their defence force skills to civilian life.

It’s important to remember that most things are planned out for you during life in the military. You’ve got a career path mapped out, and you’re given the exact training you need to be successful. So, for those defence force members who end their careers prematurely, either by choice or otherwise, it can be difficult to adjust.

Soldier On assists with health and well-being services, learning and education, and employment. In this article, we’ll explore some of the ways Soldier On Jobs can help you build a successful and rewarding civilian career.

Identifying pathways to employment

Often, if you’ve been in the military since a young age, you may not have given much thought to a Plan B. As a result, when your military career ends, you don’t necessarily know the career path you’d like to follow. Even if you can identify a clear job that you’d like to hold, the pathway there isn’t always so clear.

Soldier on Jobs offers excellent support in identifying potential careers and mapping out a pathway. There will likely be specific skills you’ve learned in the military that directly transfer to civilian roles. However, aside from that, many of the personal qualities and skills you’ve developed during military service are highly valued by employers. So, with the right support, you can build a great civilian career.

Preparing for your job search

If you’ve already followed a very clear career path in the military, the concept of job search might be pretty new. Soldier On provides support with resume writing, goal-setting, and getting you job-ready. Another part of this is helping identify opportunities, whether networking events or jobs to apply for. Through its connections with employment agencies, Soldier On can often find skill-specific opportunities with organisations known to support the program.

Supply Workforce, for example, is committed to supporting the Soldier On Jobs program. As such, we’re happy to engage with any former military personnel with an electrical background. As an electrical employment agency in Sydney, we often have roles that are perfect for people who have recently finished a military career.

Support for applications

Finally, Soldier On also gives people the support they need during the job application process. This might be assistance with application writing, how to showcase that their military skills translate to civilian employment, or even offering interview practice. Basically, they’ve got your back the whole way.
